Hi,

I would like more info on how and which decoder/encoder is using VD.
When I open a file, does it ise an VFW and ACM codec or just directshow filter? Same when displaying the image (preview)?

When it recompresses, it only uses VFW and ACM codecs if I have well understood.

Am i right?

Thank you
Rmanal

Decoding
It uses vfw and acm codecs in normal operation (without a plugin)
Plugins may use vfw/acm, directshow codecs or their own (FFMPeg)
(It's up to the plugin how the file is decoded)

Virtualdub normally uses the OS's own system for determining which codec to use for a fourcc code
Plugins may decide a different way

Encoding
Normal use is to use installed vwf/acm codecs
Using the external encoder options you may use other methods of encoding (.exe's etc) and muxing to different containers (.mkv etc)
