Ok, so I know my system can process the video faster than the playback speed of the video which is at 60fps. What can I do so that I can utilize the complete processing power of my pc when analyzing the video with deshaker?
The problems I have seen with doing processing jobs and then saving is that if its uncompressed, the datarate slows it down. If compression is used, then the compression slows it down.
So basically I have to play the video in vdub without actually saving it anywhere to get the fastest analysis rate but then the frame rate of the video becomes an issue.
Ideas? |

Use the 'run video analysis pass' with uncompressed video That'll process each frame as fast as possible without saving anything anywhere

I tried that. So I did a one minute test. With the suggested analysis pass, it processed 1050 frames. With regular play, it processed 1250 frames. What gives lol? |

How many actual frames were there?
I tried with a 1500 frame long sample, and got the same log file doing it both ways (1500 frames) Any moving around the file eg previous frame button, or moving the slider will keep adding the frames you view to the log
You could make a copy of the log after doing it one way and compare it with the log from doing it the other if you want to check the difference

I played the video file and stopped at the frames which were shown on the screen. This always accurate since the processing stops at the end of the playback.
For the processing step, I was just watching time passed and frames processed.
So for each test, I counted the frames processed after 1 minute on the same video with the same settings.
I could have let the analysis complete but why wait for the results when it was clear after 1000 frames that the analysis method was slower. I believe something similar happens when you do the preview as well. I am not sure if this was resolved since I dont check back that often any more ( really busy ).
So my question dloneranger is how long did it take to process your video using both methods? |

For two minutes of video (640x480), it takes 46 seconds with the analysis pass it's the same code as save as avi, just doesn't bother saving to a file It should be faster than playing unless (maybe, depending on options) virtualdub is skipping frames while playing to keep up with the audio, or you have a codec chosen that isn't 'uncompressed'
Only real way to check is to compare two deshaker logs and see what differences there are (source code compare/diff programs are good for that) My two logs are exactly the same doing it either way
[edit] after playing about with options, I cannot make analysis pass go slower than just playing unless I pick a compression codec<>uncompressed
