I'm merely trying to remove the first 30 seconds off of my 54 minute video then save it again.
The video will open in virtualdub-1.9.11 32 bit, but not 1.9.9 32 bit, 1.10.4 32 bit or 1.10.4 64 bit (says 'unsupported file type'). I thought the software utilized the system's codecs rather than internal ones, so why the differing behaviour?
Also even in the version that does open the video, it does not recognise the audio, which apparently is enough reason to not even play the video.
This is what mediainfo shows about the file:

Furthermore (perhaps, as a separate question, this deserves its own topic, but I'll see if I can get an answer here), I could not get it to save the file in its original format, it seems to want to decompress and recompress the video all over again. This wouldn't be so bad except almost every codec I tried bloated the video to 10x its original size (or even more). The only codec that compressed it to a reasonable size (and at a reasonable speed) was "x264vfw - h.264/mpeg-4 avc codec".
Annoyingly though, sometimes when starting the compression an error would occur telling me that the file was corrupted (with the exact same settings that previously worked) and I'd have to restart the application.
Then the one time I got it to compress, the progress hung at 100% and I had to forcefully close the application, and the video wouldn't play nor could youtube figure out how to process it.
If someone could walk me through the easiest way to accomplish this supposedly simple task, I'd be grateful. |
