I'm trying to capture some VHS videos using a mix of old and new components. I have an old ATI TV Wonder 650 PCI installed in a Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center system with an AMD A8-5600K APU. The tuner card works find for everyday OTA HD TV DVR functions in Media Center
I've tried VirtualDub 1.10.4. The capture device appears as ATI AVStream Analog Capture (DirectShow). I can view the VHS video source live that I am trying capture, but when I try to capture using F5 or F6, the live source goes black and I only capture audio and no video in the resulting AVI file. I'm using the standard YUY2 compression setting. Other settings also do not work.
Video: Frame size, fps (µs per frame): 720x480, 29.970 fps (33367 µs) Length: 0 frames (0:00.00) Decompressor: Internal DIB decoder (YUY2) Number of key frames: 0 Min/avg/max/total key frame size: (no key frames) Min/avg/max/total delta size: (no delta frames) Data rate:
Audio: Sampling rate: 48000Hz Channels: 2 (Stereo) Sample precision: 16-bit Compression: PCM (Uncompressed) Layout: 9 chunks (1.37s preload) Length: 556793 samples (0:11.60) Min/avg/max/total frame size: 130020/247463/262144 (2175K) Data rate: 1536 kbps (0.01% overhead)
I've tried VirtualDubMod 1.5.10 but cannot even get to a valid capture device function with that one. I get an error for Video Device already in use... you cannot use this device when another video application, such as DVD...
Any thoughts? |

Maybe the instructions in the following thread can help... > http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...=ST&f=6&t=21444

I tried following those instructions to no avail. I had not installed the x264 codecs. When I change from overlay mode to preview in the video menu, the live view changes to a solid black box (is that expected?). When I go into capture mode, audio is recorded but no frames are captured. In fact, no capture statistics are generated. |

I have no immediate idea. The preview should not go black during recording/capturing.
You do not mention if your Windows Operating System is 64-bit or 32-bit and which xx-bit version of VirtualDub you did install.
Sometimes it is a question of finding the right combination between program and drivers.
If possible, try with VirtualDub 32-bit in combination with 32-bit drivers for the ATI-card and also 32-bit codecs for compressing video and audio. |
