Ac3 Audio Codec Causing Games To Crash!

Hi,
I need some help here cause i'm at my wits end!!
I've downloaded the following file Farscape - [1x05] - Back And Back And Back To The Future [350]-[AC3]-[AMC] but i get no sound!!
so i install AC3 audio codec from Nimo pack and then file plays fine, but the minute AC3 codec is installed games won't start anymore.
Madden 2003 and NOLF2 both crash to desktop after the splash screens, if i uninstall the codec again the games are fine.
Anyone please suggest anything cause its driving me mad!!!!
Someone suggested i re-encode the file with virtual dub with a different audio format....is this the best way or do you suggest something better?
