Hi!

Is somewhere available Intervideo Audio codec (decoder is enough) that works with VirtualDub?

I have to convert video where audio is encoded by Intervideo Audio codec. Latest Nimo and Tsunami packs didn't help - they install ActiveX filter - so I can see movie with Microsoft Media Player, but can't decode sound with VirtualDub.

Regards,
Valja

Intervideo audio codec ?

I assume you mean Dolby AC3 audio ( decoded by intervideo audio filter if WinDVD is installed ), and to answer your question, no sorry, there is no AC3.acm codec to my knowledge that could be used with Vdub for encoding/editing.

To edit an existing AVI with AC3 sound try Nandub 1.0 RC2 instead ( get it from http://www.doom9.org ) , its based on Vdub but can handle AC3. It allows user to mux existing AC3 streams to AVIs by giving a WAV ( RIFF ) header to them, and also to edit those if there is an AVI containing AC3 sound.

But, again, its not possible to encode audio ( from PCM WAV for example ) to AC3 in Vdub, as there is no such thing as a AC3.acm codec .

Thanx for your reply, I'll try Nandub. Any chance that VirtualDub will support AC3 in future?

I don't want to encode in AC3, I just have one file encoded with one (!) keyframe and AC3 sound and I want to recode it to more convenient format.

No need to reencode .. in nandub ( remember, its based on virtualdub code ) tick the 'extended opening options' box when opening your file with only one key frame. Then tick 'rederive keyframes' and open the file .... Vdub will calculate new keyframes for the file now, all you have to do now is to store it to another file name.

See .... no reencoding needed ! smile.gif

Looks like I have more problems here. Nandub immediately complaints: "Invalid AVI file: Chunk at 102400 extends outside of parent by 236 bytes", but VirtualDub opens the file without problems.

So I have first recode video in VirtuaDub and copy sound directly, then open file in Nandub and recode sound with direct video copy. Anyway I have to recode, because I want to decrease file size.

Christian,

Is this rederive keyframes option a new feature in Nandub? If not, I'm not sure it will help in this case. The AVI may only be encoded with 1 keyframe at the beginning and all the rest are delta frames. If this is the case, according to the VirtualDub helpfile, there is no way to have more keyframes aside from recompressing. The option you are talking about rederives the keyframes that are already there in the case of a broken download or damaged index. This still may be the case however as no one encodes very long files with 1 keyframe anymore.

Thats what i thought, sorry for being unprecise mate .. i guess the movie has more than one keyframe, but they got damaged somehow and are now wrongly indicated as missing .... as always, i may be wrong smile.gif !

Probably I have to calrify situation a bit. File I have is corrupted and NanDub didn't open this file at all. VDub opens this file but wasn't able to rederive keyframes - a few very last frames were corrupted. Also divfix 1.07 didn't help - anyway I had only one keyframe. So only way for me was to recode video, starting with this only keyframe. Fortunately VDub did this job.

Bigger problem was sound. Originally it was AC3 encoded (448Kbps 48KHz 5 channels), but I wanted to get rid of AC3 and encode sound as usually (some 96K or 128K stereo). Finally I managed to do it:

1. Using VDub I derived sound to wav file (AC3 encoded) and renamed it to *.ac3 file.
2. Then I used ac3->wav converter from
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/download...s/ac3towav.html
This converter allows to recode AC3 stream using another compression (MPEG Layer-3, Windows Media audio or something else).
3. Using VDub again I used this wav file as source for direct audio stream copy. There was no need to adjust sound.

That's all. Resulting avi file was significantly smaller and works perfectly.

Valja
