Here is the 'Simple' answer, as requested :

1- You forgot to use the 'search' function here, which is impolite

2- You are using BOLT LETTERS TO MAKE YOUR QUESTION LOOK VERY IMPORTANT, being even more impolite

3- You have a bunch of files encoded in either Microsoft ( M$ ) MPEG4V3 ( FourCC : mp43 ) or DivX3.11 codec ( FourCC : div3 and div4 ), both being illegally used in AVIs, latter being a 'hack' of first.

4- It would have been easy to find out ( again by using the 'search' button ) that both codecs mentioned above have not much to do with MPEG4ISO standard codecs ( like DivX 5 ), but are Microsoft MPEG4 standard compliant and its impossible ( at least for the time being, i heard there are ideas how it could be done ) to convert them into MPEG4ISO streams.

5- I dont have a real clue what you mean with 'converting to DivX5' , you could have described a bit more detailled what you are trying to achieve and what your problem is. Cant you play the files ? Do you have a MPEG4 hardware decoder card and it refuses to play your movies ?

Please be a bit more polite to us here with future postings. Thanks ....

Both of your posts have used "BOLT" lettering, as ChristianHJW pointed out. I think your Caps Lock key may be stuck. I recommend you separate the plastic layers of your keyboard and wash them with a mild soap and water solution.

Sorry About the CAPS before but, my eye sight gets blurry sometimes and caps are easier to read then.

Am trying to re-encode everythiung that has been downloaded to Diovx5 so that eveything is Leagl.

QUOTE (AAL1947 @ Oct 1 2002, 01:19 PM)
VITUAL DUB GIVES ME THIS ERROR: SOURCE IMAGE FORMAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE (ERROR CODE-2).

To re-encode to "Diovx5" and make everything "Leagl", the video height must be a multiple of 2, and the width must be a multiple of 4. If your illegal videos do not conform to these restrictions, you'll need to rescale them.

Can you tell us exactly what virtualdub tells you about the FOURCC of the videos used ? It is essential to give you the right recommendations.

Please ignore my answer about using CAPS, your email clarified why you have to use them.

Sorry to make fun of your CAPS. My eyesight is not so good either. tongue.gif

The only time I have ever seen the error you described is when I've tried to recompress a video in which the height or width was odd, or not a multiple of 2 (or 4). But regarding my previous post, it occurred to me that it might be better in this case to crop a few pixels than to rescale.

Okay here is what I am trying to do. Have 6 seasons of BTVS downloaded which are encoded anywhich way from Div3 -> MPEG also with various audio encodes and lengths.

Want to re-encode/re-compress using Virtualdub and Divx5.02.
Settings at present are:
Filters: Null and then resize tio 360 x 240.
Frame Rate: whatever download was.
Video Compression Divx 5.02 - 443kbits on general tab which is what AdvBitCal gives for a 43min video using 200MB.
Audio Conversion is 44100Hz, intergal conversion, HQ 16bit, stero.
Audio Compression is MPEG Layer 3: 96KBits, Stereo, 12Kb

Would like to get them all set to the above settings so that I can then edit Frame Rate to NTSC 23.976 with synced audio.

The error I mentioned occures with the Div3 and Microsoft Mpg4 V1-V2 codecs to the best of my knowledge, but not all the time.

Thank You in advance.

DivX ;-) and MS MPEG-4 support odd video heights, but DivX 5.0.2 does not. What is the video size (width x height) of the videos which give you the error? (Choose VDub File->Information)

Also:
* make sure that you have Video set to "Full processing mode." (duh)
* look at Video->Color Depth, and make sure Output format is 24-bit.

I can't think of any other reasons you are getting error -2. unsure.gif
