Hi,
I have used VirtualDub for many years in astronomy and it is a great programme. I am currently trying to use it to batch convert batches of thousands of .MOV clips from a Canon camera into uncompressed greyscale Y800.
I can do this in VirtualDub using the Y8 colorspace and get a clip with the codec name ''Y8'. Or, I can use the ffdshow codec and produce a clip with the codec name 'ffdshow'.
My problem is that one of the programmes I use - Avistack - will only load clips with a codec name 'Y800'. Avistack is no longer supported.
Is there any way I can force the codec name to 'Y800'?
thanks in advance Dave |

This worked like a charm
Just to let you know what this means, I record 30s video clips of sunspots and flares which gives 120 per hour. I then stack them in AviStack which takes hours and sometimes days to process, even with my 8x core 3.1mhz. AviStack produces single sharp, detailed frames for each clip that I can use in animations.
Switching to Y800 dropped the process time from 16min to 2min per clip.
The app even comes with the source code so I will tweak it so I can batch edit whole folders of clips at once.
Thanks again for your help Dave
ps Someone on the AviStack forum just pointed me at VirtualDub's hex editor which can do the same thing. Problem solved twice over. |
