Yes it's a false alarm The file hasn't changed since it was uploaded 2014-02-09 You can check on virustotal.com for reports from multiple av programs (Avast there says it's ok)
Your screenshot doesn't actually say what's triggered avast as the 'object' is cut off though (it could be an advert for all we know)

Interesting, but it's still wrong Like I said, scan it at VirusTotal.com - 55 out of 55 scanners say it's clean https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/eb554eb4...b3dbe/analysis/
You could check the file or the crc of the file you downloaded with the above page for verification
[edit] I mention checking your file just to rule out any possibility of things like man-in-the-middle exploits

You found a bogus link to the project page the bogus part is hxxp://softlayer-dal.dl
It should be http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdub...harpmaskfilter/
The link dloneranger has in his post sigs also is correct https://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdub.../?source=navbar (with or without ?source=navbar at the end of the url)
And the download url would start with http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ |

That doesn't sound or look good for Sourceforge
File mirrors yes are good for downloading files only. Not for mirroring Sourceforge site and project pages |

It's just an efficiency/redundancy thing - faster access and if one gets flooded the other still work Sourceforge isn't one site, it's a lot of mirror sites in various locations around the world When you go to Sourceforge, you're redirected to the closest one to you (or the one you picked from the mirror list) On the sourceforge page, when it's getting ready to download, there's two links 'direct download' and 'try another mirror' - if you choose Dallas as your preferred site (or it's physically closest to you already) then that's where it'll come from (I checked when I first saw the link as it looked odd to me as well - Kent's my closest)
That's also why sometimes you have to wait for a new file to become available, as the page updates are copied to all the other sites

A Sourceforge mirror Softlayer (Dallas, TX, US)
I'll use the Direct Link when I need to rename the file before file download starts and Sourceforge auto choose a mirror. Or let download start automatically Sourceforge auto choosing a mirror to use for me which seems to work out ok for speed for the file download mirror it chooses. Maybe now Sourceforge auto chooses a mirror checking which is the fastest by ping speed which could explain the lag or pause before the download (save as) request window appears |
