Just opened v.1.10.4..wow it's neat and crisp to operate but haven't done much so far 'cause I'm caught up in this preview pane problem..images distort
when trying to resize, enlarge the video pane. I don't see this reported yet so maybe there's a setting that has to be tweaked?

gratefully,

l

I hope you mean the image just squishes to fit whatever size you drag the pane to - if not, a screenshot would help

If that is what you mean...
They're fully resizable, so you can get to other panels you may open underneath them - audio, curves editor
Or, if the video aspect ratio just looks wrong when a video is loaded, you can change the size to figure out what size the video actually should be
It's only for the display in virtualdub, and doesn't affect the saving of a video
You can right click on them to access some presets 1:1, 16:9, zoom% etc (again, it's only the pane display that's affected)

Thanks so much for responding quickly..in 1.9.4 I could just drag the display
pane to make it larger or smaller for easier viewing when editing, but in 10.4, the image distorts or kind of multiplies itself which is uncomfortable for editing...I understand that the saved result will not be similar, but still...
I'm sorry I don't know how to save the screen image to show you.
I can right click and zoom to 200,300,400% without problem but going smaller
again produces the image distortion.

I depend on this simple adjustment, that's all I usually do with the panes but maybe no one else does this?

thanks again,

l

You can make a screen shot of most things with the printscreen button on your keyboard, then open paint and paste it in

Haven't seen anything like that sounds, but you might want to play with the display options in the preferences, try unticking things until it works or you run out of things to untick
Could just be a display driver problem, have you checked for updates?

I almost never drag the borders myself - but if I do, I check "1:1 pixel (Square)"

I am doing better without any display acceleration; honestly, I forget what the problem was.

DirectX overlay giving weird colours/levels? That's always a fave with drivers that 'enhance' your videos

Thanks a million for all your attention and input you guys...and
after some fiddling with 'display' in preferences the pane issue is resolved in 10.4, but I kept getting a split second delay in the display pane when stopping and starting a video, but more annoying is this 'error message' ..
-Cannot initialize rendering parameters: Cannot start filter chain: The 3D accelerator device is not available.-
..which effectively prevents any operation..this results from trying to use the resize filter to change an encoded video size to 624x352 in re-encoding with the x264vfw codec. And there
is a [C] [3D] at the start of the information line in the filter box describing the new parameters..that was never there before.

This error also occurs now in the 9.4 version which I found and downloaded to avoid that display delay mentioned above, and which is why I've hung on to that version for so long. But now it too is partially malfunctioning with that internal resize filter.

My trouble began when my antivirus decided that the 9.4 version was a threat and deleted it..so I figured just update
and see how the new version looks.

I can imagine how difficult it must be for you guys to figure this out when this great application is working so well for you as it used to for me...but if anyone still wants to give this a shot, man, I'd really appreciate it.

That's from the preferences -> 3d accel -> enable 3d video filter acceleration
Untick that and the 3d bit should go away

Generally you are better off using the latest version just for any bug fixes
Looks like something changed that hates your video card along the way though
Not a huge problem though, as those options shouldn't make much of a difference overall

Thanks again for your patience with my problems, Loneranger, but the 3D
boxes are not selected, just dithering and directx for display and the [3D]still
appears in the filter box..
I really would like to use the latest version but there is that delay in the
video pane that you obviously don't have but I do in everything later than
9.4...I don't understand it.

appreciate you time and consideration

l

are there any other plugins I should consider..I have all the necessary ones,
I think wmv, quicktime, flv...

Did you check the right place, there's only one checkbox on that tab?

Re the delay, try unticking all the DirectX stuff on the picture in previous post

It had to be something simple, didn't it..I'm really sorry to waste your time
with something I should have noticed more accurately...too flustered, I guess, so thank you so very much for all your help, forgive me for being
such a pain.

And how do you get such a great screen capture..with Paint? I don't know
how to use that very well.

very gratefully,

lroi

No problem, you're actually one of the good ones :-)
Decent descriptions etc, pleasure to work with

For screen grabs, I just hit ALT-printscreen key on the keyboard, go to paint and paste it in
ALT-printscreen will capture just the active window, printscreen will do the entire screen
I usually use imageshack to upload to (making sure you turn off the default resizing option as it'll blur out any text)

I remember why I disabled DirectX acceleration - the aspect ratio is distorted if you try to zoom in too far. Good old GDI display does not have this limitation, and display speed seems fast enough.

This is a known bug in the Direct3D display path -- haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.
