Hy ,
I have http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/DShowInputD...Driver-0.93.zip installed, and using vd 1.9.11,
but when I click on the flv file , VirtualDub error message says "The file"c:\videoclip.flv" is of an unknown file type."
is there an flv plugin I need as well ?? and if so please can you send me the link ? Im using windows 8 , 64bit
I have set the ffdshow to libavcodec - see here -

however when I try to run VFW configuration, nothing happens, does this mean the ffdshow maybe corrupt ? should I download and re-install ffdshow again ? |

You need a splitter and any codecs the file uses
LAVFilters should do both for you https://code.google.com/p/lavfilters/

Ummm. that's the source code for FFMpeg, which is a command line video utility

ok , I download and installed this, but now Im still getting the same error and the video will not load. I have added a screen shot - here- also Gspot is not sure if it is a flv file, the video plays in all my video players.

GSpots really old and can't read many types of files
MediaInfo is better http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
So just to check what you're doing is what I do
You installed LAVFilters
You have the directshow plugin inside virtualdubs plugins32 folder
Start virtualdub
On the file menu, pick open video file
Select your file, then change the 'files of type' at the bottom to 'Directshow input driver'
Click OK
That should load the flv fine
If not check the lav splitter configuration has flv ticked, the lav video configuration has h264 and flash ticked and try again
(MediaInfo will show what codecs it needs if in doubt)

sorry, how do I get into the " lav splitter configuration ", when I installed that program, all I see is dll and ax files in the LAV folder. |

so I see mediainfo is saying that the flv is actually a AVC codec which I never herd of, also I do not see this codec listed in LAV splitter configuration or ffdshow supported codecs.
when I play this video in Media player classic - properties say its H264 codec.
But I googled and found this -

it's the very top one on that list in your screenshot (up above the ones you've shown though)
h264 / avc / mpeg-4 avc / mpeg-4 part 10
If it's ticked
And your definitely picking 'directshow files' as 'files of type' before clicking ok in virtualdubs open video dialog
But it's still not working....
An you're using win7 or newer
Then try the codec choose in my sig
In it's preferred decoders page, change the h264 entry to lav video or ffdshow - either should be ok
