Using a VirtualDub 1.10.4 with the latest fccHandler MKV input plugin v3.1 and opening a MKV movie. Display is fine, but encoding a little part of it results of no audio. So I thought that I got to convert it probably, or do I did some similar mistake... but no. The audio is not even present in the input file info...!

So I would just like to report that.

And hope for fix sometimes, so I did not stumble on this problem again... (the file is 4G big, so donno how to do a sample of the data for test)

Maybe you should first try to find out if there really is an audio track or not ...

Best chances are to use the FFMpeg inputdriver (for VirtualDub) for this.
It is able to (also) open MKV files and to decode most of the video and audio without any need for extra external decoders.

You can find the most recent version 0.8.0.2 via the following site:

I suppose you already know what installing means : unpack the ZIP file to the plugins32 subfolder of your VirtualDub installation
(Take care to also unpack the included folder "ffdlls", that contains its own number of files)

After that, when in the Open video dialogbox of VirtualDub, first select the MKV-file and then at Files of type, do select FFMpeg Supported Files.
Finallly click Open.

Now, via File > File Information... you should be able to find information about the audio codec that is being used in the MKV file in question.

At this stadium it is maybe no longer needed to search for an other solution, given the fact that you can open and play MKV via this plugin.
If the FFMpeg inputdriver works at your satisfaction (without error messages), you are free to keep using this solution.
If not or if you are still interested, you can start searching for the needed audio codec that you can use in combination with the MKV Matroska inputdriver.

Good luck.

Just found that you also have posts about the same topic at several other places in the forum...

If you are sure about the audio codec, then why not try ffdshow in combination with the MKV inputdriver,

or,

verify that you have the very latest version of the FFMpeg inputdriver plugin
(at the end of August there was an error in the name of subfolder, it must be "ffdlls" in stead of "fldlls").

@trodas:

Are you sure AC3 audio inside of the MKV file? Some MKV is included DTS audio.
fccHandler's MKV input plugin not support DTS audio. Therefore, Vdub can't import the DTS audio.

The temp. solution:
1) Open the MKV (with XMedia Recode).
2) Select to Format: WAV, File extention: WAV
3) Click to Add to Job. After "Encode".

In the end, VirtualDub -> Audio -> Audio from file -> select to saved the WAV file. That's it.
