Don't use Intel products? Then, apparently, you will be missing out on all the new software that takes advantage of P4 specific instructions. The new Virtual Dub is as good a reason as any to give up on the AMD processor. Besides, the only truly Intel compatible processor IS an Intel processor.

You're kidding, right? Programs designed exclusively for Intel CPU's are destined to fail. AMD chips are not only superior in design, but price as well.

AMD is slowly taking over market share from Intel, and with so many people already owning AMD cpu's, there will be no shortage of software for me to use.

I'm not about to spend $200 extra for a CPU that needs 'special software' and instructions designed exclusively for it, just to match every day performance in all other applications which run on Athlon CPU with unmodified code, thx smile.gif

Then get the new 1.4.12

the version is supported by every processor. if you want the P4 specific you have to do a separate download.

The version carries improvements for every one.

Athlon users really shouldn't complain. Intel was the reason 1.4.11 got pushed out in a reasonable timeframe with all of its fixes, and the HyperThreading support in the 3.06GHz P4 was the only reason I caught the SMP stability bug, given that all of my other systems are single CPU.

I am doing some more testing, but I think VD 1.4.12 has a bug or two related to filtering. I was encoding the original Bubble Gum Crisis series and I got some weird behavior with Xvid and or filtering in 1.4.12 that did not occur in 1.4.10 or 11. As soon as I isolate the exact cause I will report back.

It may just be a coincidence but I am on an AMD sys. tongue.gif I still love my AMD though.

No need -- I already know about the two critical regressions in 1.4.12. I am preparing to release 1.4.13 as we speak.
