Hi guys, i'm new here, this is my first message

I have an .avi with the audio stream "0x0050", VirtualDub ID is "Unknown (tag 0050)"

I can play audio with players but i want to convert it and VirtualDub give me the error "There is not a decoder installed"

I think 0x0050 is for "Mpeg Layer I and Layer II" audio and so i probably need the ACM Mpeg Layer I-II audio decoder (?)

Where can I find it?
Someone can help me?

Thank you for attention

I'm not aware of any ACM decoder for Layers I and II. IIRC the Fraunhofer codec which comes with Windows can only decode Layer III (stupid, I know...)

VirtualDubMod should be able to "demux" the audio. You could then use just about any stand-alone MP3 decoder (LAME, for instance) to decompress it to raw PCM.

There may exist other programs which can do it all internally. I'm thinking of Winamp for one, but I don't use it so I don't know if it can do that. GraphEdit can certainly do it if you have the "wav dest" filter.

Let me guess, captured with InterVideo WinDVD Creator?

Even regular VirtualDub will demux the audio. (Unlike with video streams, a decompressor is only required for audio streams when decompressing them.) You should then be able to use WinAmp to decompress it; it should detect the MPEG audio stream inside the WAV file and decode it as such.

I recommended VirtualDubMod just to be safe, because its "demux" function doesn't add a WAVE header. But you're right, of course. A well-written MP3 decoder should ignore the header and sync on the embedded MPEG audio.

There is a mpeg acm codec, but it's not free. And phaeron was on track about the connection between intervideo and the way it was encoded, cause intervideo uses it.Whether the prob is from that,I'm unsure. It could be someone used mp3wave to encode the audio(it adds the 0x0050 format tag to the audio file).

http://www.qdesign.com/products/about_products/acm.htm

ps.For some reason, after testing the mp3wave theory, everything works fine for me,so the intervideo thing is probably the right one.

for the future --->http://www.avisynth.org/Section+2%3A+AviSy...ameserving#q2.9 (question 2.9)

theres a link to a mp2acm there. extract the zipfile, right click on the .inf file and afterwards you should be able to open file with mp2 in VDub.

a little bit late, but better late then never smile.gif

The Intervideo QDesign Mpeg Layer II ACM audio decoder

http://www.geocities.com/wilbertdijkhof/qmpeg_mp2.zip
that's the link but it's not disponible for now

so i found it in the Tsunami Filter Pack (Great 16 MB Pack!)

thank you a lot

(is it maybe an illegal thing? - i think QDesign is not freeware)

It's definitely not free,or legal to have without buying. It costs $149 to buy from qdesign. If it was free, everyone would either know,or have it.

QUOTE (phaeron @ Jan 6 2005, 10:53 PM)
Let me guess, captured with InterVideo WinDVD Creator?

I have the problem with ULead Video Studio 8 SE VCD. If I 'Capture' files with that porgram (no 'Share' but 'Capture') it gaves this error "source frmat tag: 0050).

I now installed the mp2_acm from
http://www.geocities.com/wilbertdijkhof/qmpeg_mp2.zip and it works.

Thanks for this help.

All the best,

Victor

Just for clarification, once you have the file, you need to right click the .INF file, then select "Install". A few seconds later, you will be prompted for the location of the other file if it isn't in the same place as the .INF. Once that is installed, VirtualDub will play the audio no problem, and conversions, etc. will work just fine.

I had this problem due to the new DVcam I bought recording in this same strange format.

Hi,
I've tried
http://www.geocities.com/wilbertdijkhof/qmpeg_mp2.zip
Virtualdub now give correct name for audio stream "Qdesign Mpeg..." but when I try to dub, it's crashing!!!
The details are:
"An integer division by zero occured in module 'qmpeg'...
...while running thread "Processing" (thread.cpp:152)."

blink.gif

Why?!?!?

Try the latest 1.7.X test release from the testing forum. It has built-in decoding support for MPEG layer II audio that should be a bit more reliable (or, at least, that I can fix).
