After upgrade everything stays the same.
By the way, decoding of x264 in VD after opening it from mkv is SLOW (in both RC1 and 7127).
Also when trying to open FLVs (forcing 'DirectShow' file type in 'Open...' dialog), VD says:
--------------------------- VirtualDub Error --------------------------- Unable to set filename on media detector: hr = 80040200 --------------------------- OK --------------------------- |

Possibly caused by microsoft forcing their own H264 decoder to be used? |

It appears there's no elegant way for end-users to get rid of built-in Microsoft video decoder.
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146672
So, I suppose, the only available solution ATM is to hack into Win7 filters management (one of ways to do it is http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/04/disable-and...vd-decoder.html, and another is http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/04/replacing-t...-playback.html). Also an interesting read: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146672 .
Is custom graph renderer the only elegant solution for VD to properly deal with DShow filter merits? |

Custom graph building is not out of the question, although it is a pain.
I am curious as to what exactly Microsoft did to cause this situation. It certainly seems to break the DirectShow priority model entirely, even more than it already was by design. |

Not satisfied with forcing WMP to always use their decoders, directshow now always prefers Media Foundation filters. |

And what about G-Spot, is it operational in that environment?... Can it show the merits of MS codecs ??... Can it change the merits ???
Sometimes some codecs happen to get installed with merit above 20000-30000, (while "Preferred" = 8000), which makes them "unavoidable" (if you haven't got a war-club for that case). |

I just tried this plugin, and it works, and I can't even tell you how pleased I am. When I opened an MKV, and it actually showed up in the VDub screen, I yelled out loud, "Oh my [CENSORED] god, this is awesome!"
Thank you, thank you to the people who have worked on this project. This is a very helpful plugin indeed. |

First off let me say thanks for this plugin, I use it a lot. But I must be missing something in regards to opening the MKV files. From what I'm reading here is that you can't drag-n-drop an MKV onto VD and it open? You have to do use the File->Open Video File... and Select the DirectShow Input Driver every time?
This is where I think I'm missing something since I have been drag-n-dropping MKVs quite a bit and it works fine. |

It should work as long as your MKV is registered somewhere as a DirectShow type (or something like that), it's discussed somewhere within this topic.
If you see .mkv in the extensions of the 'All file types'-list, you can d&d it.

Ah ok, I knew I had to be missing something, thanks. My 'All file types' list is so long I can't see MKV on it, even after I stretched the window as far as it could go, but it must be there. I've had it working from the start on 3 PCs, so I didn't think it was anything unique. On my "new" PC I had too much trouble getting the 64bit codecs to load the MKV into VD so I had to try and remember what I used before to get it working. Turns out it was the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack). |
