Hello everybody.
I ran into a problem while trying to convert a DV-Avi into a lossless format like lagarith of ffv1.
When viewing the original DV-Avi in windows Media Player or such it looks like it is progressive. But if I load the DV-Avi into VirtualDub (no matter what version 1.8.1/1.8.4(64)/1.8.5) the video is clearly interlaced.
If I then convert the video, the interlacing gets even stronger and the whole video seems to be slower perhaps because of this ugly sloMo effect.
So my questions are: + Why is VirtualDub doing this and how can I set it to do it right ? + (Just in case WindowMediaPlayer is deinterlacing on the fly: ) How can I determine if a video file is interlaced or not (without looking at the video) ? |

VirtualDub isn't doing anything, WMP is deinterlacing on the fly. You can't really know if a video is interlaced without looking at it.

That's making it clear, thanks for your fast reply stephanV.
If I plan to make a DVD from it, should I get rid of the interlacing or not ?
If yes, should I use the deinterlace filter in "blend fields together" or use a specialised tool like DScaler to remover the interlacing ? |

Personally, I would keep interlaced footage interlaced when my end format is DVD.

Ok, so I'll keep it the way it is. Thank you very much. |
