Problem Opening .h264 Mkv Video

Vd 1.8 will not open h264 MP4 MKV .
Using this one.

http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/DShowInputD...tDriver-0.5.zip .

I checked in my ffdshow settings and all h264 and MKV codecs are enabled !!

it says mkv is of an unknown or unsupported file type when I try to load the vid.

any help would be appreciated. The vid plays OK in VLC and says it is H264 mkv video codec .

Is the plugin in the link OK to use ?

you'll also need a splitter that can handle mkv's
