I did at one time write to Intel about a question I had a while back but never got a response back.

I have an Intel D945GCCR board and my bios update is from 08302007. I do remember updating the bios one time a few years ago.

On their page for bios updates for that board they have two from 2008 but I have no understanding if it is necessary to get one of those updates? Intel makes a claimer saying that nobody should get an update if it isn't really needed but I have no idea on what the fixes do or what the features are:

Since I'm not able to copy text from the pdf reader I had to make screecaps:

I don't know what those things mean so I don't know if they are needed updates?

Intel page for downloads for my board:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResu...=OS+Independent

I haven't noticed any problems since I got this board in late 2007 and doing the 08302007 bios update.

Using PC Wizard I am noticing that under the motherboard section that the manufacturer, ID, serial number and some other items are "unspecified"? Is this normal?

Also no cmos battery is detected, lol. I will be doing a fresh install onto a new drive tomorrow. Got a WD 1TB drive. I will be so glad to start off fresh again.

essentially you need bios update for "big" things, like when new bios version supports some new cpu you just bought, or alike.

otherwise there's not much sense in doing it.

changes are usually nothing you could perceive.
