I suffer since quite some timewasting problem.
Win98 and VirtualDub 1.5.4
Sometimes I cannot drag a file from Explorer to VirtualDub anymore. When I drag to VirtualDub I get the + indicating it can be dropped but it isn't loaded into VirtualDub. When I then close/reopen Windows Explorer and try again, it works, but not always.
Also, when the problem occurs, and I select File/Open in VirtualDubs menu, the "Automatically detect and load additional segments" is pre-checked. If I uncheck it, the next time I do a File/Open, it's again checked. This doesn't happen when the copy/paste problem is not occurring.
Any idea what can cause this? |

Use the current version of Virtualdub, and if the issue still exists then reinstall Windows or do an in-place reinstall.
Make sure that you back up your data first...

I did that in the past, without success, after reinstalling windows and the essential software it start to appear. I can't get rid of essential software and it is updated as far as was possible without buying new versions.
Regarding the version of Virtualdub, in the past, I updated it on every new version, but at some version, the scrolling through the video became much slower, and since that is a very common task for me, to select and export frames, I sticked with the version before. Last week I used the latest version for some hours, just out of curiosity of what it offers nowadays, and it happened too.
I don't think it is a Virtualdub problem anyway. I posted this to see if someone has an idea what the cause can be. Reinstalling everything is a work-intensive poor-mans 'solution'. I reinstalled windows about 5 times (since 1998!, mostly due to new hardware) and made everytime a hard disk image after all essentials installed and configured. This problem persists from an image restore point on, so reinstall of windows appears to me useless here. If I have some ideas on what can cause this, I can try to pinpoint it to a certain OS problem, and look if I can update it, and store this update with some others I successfully used so far, so whenever I have to reinstall, I can fix it directly before making the hard disk image. My personal 'service pack', that is...
This is also one of my longterm problems: http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...hl=entry26355 At the moment, it doesnt happen, it just disappeared one day, without any reason I could think of. And I remember from the past that it can as easily return as go away. And remarkably, over that time, I got 3 times a new computer with, except for the expensive videocapture card, all new hardware, even AMD instead of Intel. Which proves it's caused by software. Windows or some driver. Which should be fixable then. |

Does this only happen in vdub or is this a global through-out? I had an issue like this once or twice, very rare, but i don't recall how I fixed it.
I found this on microsoft's site: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;309662
Disregard this if this only happens with vdub. |
