When I compress DV to DivX it stops efter a while. It works with small DV files, but when I try to compress DV files, like 10 GB, it crashes efter a while.

Do I need some fixes or patches to make it work? Please help me, I'm desperate. Peace!

Is there an error message? Do you have any other programs running? Give more details.

Try to answer these questions when posting a problem like this.

Please take anything I say with many many grains of salt. I can't tell the difference between my AVI and a hole in the ground.

Now, lets see....

1. Does it happen with all video files?
- No, just files who's reached a big filesize. Works fine with small DV's.

2. What version of VirtualDub and/or VirtualDubMod are you using? (The version number is in the top bar)
-1.5.7

3. If you are using VirtualDub, does it also happen if you are using VirtualDubMod? If you are using VirtualDubMod, does it also happen if you are using VirtualDub?
- Dunno what dubmode is.

4. If saving a file in VirtualDubMod, does it have the same problem if you save to AVI, OGM, or MKV?
- Dunno.

5. Does it make any difference if you select a different Video/Audio codec as the compressor?
- Nope.

6. Go to File -> File Information and copy all of the information into the post.
- Don't need to do that, it looks fine to me.

7. When exactly does the error/problem occur? Openning the file? When you click the Save button? Partway through the save process? At the end of the save process?
- After 32% compressing big DV files to DivX.

8. What is the EXACT error message? If it just brings up the debug dialog, then say so. Saying, "I got an error." means nothing to anyone.
- It tryes to reconnect after 10 sec, it try's and try's but nothing happens. It stops at 32% every time.

9. What Operating system are you using?
- Win XP

Not much help maybe... Peace!

VirtualDubMod is a modified version of VirtualDub. You will note that you posted in the VirtualDubMod support forums.

Please try downloading and trying the same thing with the latest version of VirtualDub (1.5.10). Also, please try with VirtualDubMod (1.5.10.1) to see if the result is the same.

*Moving to the VirtualDub support forums.

Streams->Stream List-> right click on stream.
You could have sarched a bit - someone asked that a few days before.

Again, what´s the EXACT error message? Is there a message? If so, type it word for word, please.

Let's start from the beginning...

When I compress big DV files to DivX it always stops at 32%
The rate went's down to 0 and nothing happens, the time's ticking, til the end of live.
When I look in the log I see that the program try to reconnect the session every 10 sec.

Log message:
Dub: 1/0 thread has not cycled for 10 seconds -- possible livelock. [Thread location: 7FFE0304]

and:
Processing thread has not cycled for 10 seconds -- possible livelock. [Thread location: 7FFE0304]

Now I've checked it up... It appears to lock itself after compressing quite 120 mb (avi). Then it tries to reconnect every 10 sec in the log file.

It doesn't stop at 32% on every file, just wanted to clearify that.

What can be wrong when the rate goes down to 0 after compressed 120 mb? It's strange...

Well, (obviously) something is locking. It is most likely the audio or video decoder or encoder.

First see if you can play the entire file in VirtualDub. If you can then the decoder is probably fine.

First try disabling the audio stream and encoding. If it locks again, then try to encode to a different codec with the audio still disabled. If it doesn't lock then try encoding the audio with a different codec.

I call it, "The process of elimination."

hehe, I just wan't to thank every patient buddy in this thread. Love!

Now, I've watched a whole dv film in virtualdubmod, works fine. Then it can't be the decoder. I will also try to disable different codecs, but it seem weird :S

I will return with the results, hehe... Keep posting tips! Thanks!

TADA!

I found the clue! I've compressed the dv movie now to divx 4.12 and I skipped the mp3 compressor, now it works.

Hmm, now I need a new fresh mp3 compressor to end this shit. Got any tips?

Peace!

DivX 4.12 is very very old and outdated, use DivX 5.1.0 instead, the free version without b-frames will be better than 4.12 in any case.

For MP3 compression, i am using the ( non-free ) Fraunhofer Professional MP3 codec, and it sounds excellent and works fine here ...... Google might be your friend, maybe somebody wants to 'sell' his codec license for cheap money wink.gif .. search for 'mp3 codec' ....
