Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > VirtualDub Filters and Filter Development > Mpeg2 Plugin- Question For Fcchandler

The Mpeg2 plugin is a GREAT tool for me. However I have one question - or perhaps request. The full location of the .VOB files is embedded in the .midx file (complete drive and path). I understand why, but is there ANY way to edit it without rebuilding the .midx file? I will say that being able to move the index itself to another folder and have it find the files is handy, BUT... I sometimes rearrange my movie rip folders between drives to balance my system, and if I move a file which has already been indexed, the index must be rebuilt, because the index doesn't point to the right place. (different drive and path). On some drives, this is not a problem, but if I put a movie on a USB drive, the index build takes a long time (drive speed). If there was a way to edit that file pointer, it would be a PERFECT tool for me. Just a wish, I guess.

Well, the original idea of storing full paths wasn't so you could move the .midx elsewhere, it was so you could join files from different locations. But looking back on it now, that isn't a very likely scenario and the original idea sort of crumbled. As it stands today the whole "virtual join" thing is solely intended for use with DVD VOBs and it generally will not work with other kinds of MPEG files. Therefore I've changed it in version 4.5 to store only the file names. That way you can move the VOBs and .midx anywhere as long as you keep them together in the same folder. http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/Plugins/MPEG2

FANTASTIC! That works perfectly for me. By the way, I love this tool for converting movies to AVI. Thank you so much.
