Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Advanced Video Processing > Frameserving To Vegas

Here are the steps I have read on doing this.

1. Proxyon
2. Install AVIFile handler
3. Load video and do whatever need to be done with it
4. Start framesering.
5. VFAPI (with and without, mostly with since Vegas does not open VDR files)
5. Import signpost file into Vegas.

The first couple of times around after importing this VFAPI_AVI file into Vegas I get all black video with no audio. Now though all I'm getting for VDR files are files that are only 1KB in size??

Edit: Maybe 1KB is normal file size for VDR files?

I have read many guides so far about Vdub with and without VFAPI and I don't know what I'm doing wrong?

Is VFAPI still a compatible program to use for frameserving?

The VDR file is only a pointer to tell the client library how to connect to VirtualDub -- it doesn't have any audio and video data in it.

That you've got VFAPI involved, though, makes this a bit more complicated. I assume it has some support for VirtualDub's frameserver by now for it to work at all, although I haven't looked into it myself. One indicator that will help diagnose this is whether you see the message totals in VirtualDub count up when Vegas opens the file. If it doesn't, then you're not getting a valid connection.

Looks like Sony Vegas doesn't open the VDR files directly but when I'm using VFAPI, whether to output the frames or if I choose to have VFAPI make the AVI file, and then bring that file into Vegas it will open up but there will be all black video and no audio at all.

The file length for the video shows correct in Vegas after importing the VFAPI converted file.

I did remember some numbers counting up in the first field, think it was in the frameserving dialog but can't remember. I will look into this more and tell you what any numbers relate to and such.

What would be your opinion about the Debugmode FrameServer ?

Haven't tried it, but it looks like a cleaned up and heavily expanded version of VirtualDub's frameserver. I wasn't sure if it was derived or not since the vdicmdrv module was greatly expanded and partially rewritten, but there was no doubt when I found a verbatim copy of my CPUID routine and referred to signposts. As far as I can tell this guy stripped all of my copyrights. mad.gif
