have several .avi files in ac3 format. read through this forum several times now and got several hints on how to fix the problem, but it still doesnt work. here is what i did : trying to save the audio as .wav doenst work with virtualdub using full processing mode, so i was told to just direct stream copy it and use headac3he to fix it. i tried to load the .wav file into headac3he, but the prog tells me "Could not find data chunk". when i hit start, it says i dont have enough free memory. i have about 5gb free memory, is that really not enough or am i doing something wrong ? i tried to use ac3fix as well, but that doesnt work either, it just runs through every frame of the movie and says the file is alright and does not need to be fixed. please help me, all those files are trashing my hdd and i need to convert them to mpeg usen tmpegenc to burn them off my hdd ! i really hope someone can help me...

If the files play fine on your PC with WinMediaplayer there shouldnt be the need to demux the audio, TMPEGencoder should read it nicely ... EDIT : me stupid, of course TMPEGencoder can not handle 5.1 to Stereo downmixing, so it wont work with normal AC3 files. EDIT2 : Did you try nandub ( doom9.org ) or http://sf.net/projects/virtualdubmod to demux your AC3 files to WAV ? EDIT3 : Get BeSweet and BeSweet GUI from www.doom9.org, it should be able to open your AC3 WAVs in any case

I have explained http://virtualdub.everwicked.com/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=1165&hl=ac3&s=9581773c3a5b28d27a65cb9f18fbdf87, how I do it. So far I was able to do it with all AC3 sound avi files I have had, and always sound was demuxed using VirtualDub. May be key moments: 1. Konversion AC3->wav (uncompressed!) is made by px3convert.exe 2. Audio demuxed in "direct stream" mode and *.wav renamed to *.ac3 3. Before conversion *.ac3 fixed using ac3fix.exe Most important is conversion *.ac3 -> *.wav itself. I have tried to convert with compressed output, sometimes it worked. But uncompressed output have worked so far in all cases. EDIT: As you have tried ac3fix.exe and it reported that ac3 file is OK, then it is ok and your main problem is just conversion itself. Try http://digilander.libero.it/divxdoor1/swpage/px3convert.html, it may help.
