Hi, I'm trying to encode a movie asf file to make vcd in TMPGEnc, (I already tried to open make a avi in virtualdub 1.3, but didn't know which codec to use, didn't work. Info appreciated!

VirtualDub 1.3 is way outdated, and what asf support it had is pretty useless nowadays. (My advice: delete it and forget about it tongue.gif )

IIRC you should be able to open the .asf directly in TMPGEnc.

If the asf is one of the rare ones with good av sync, I use vdubmod to frameserv it - in your case tho, it sounds like it uses the WMV1 codec, which is sealed to directshow.

When that happens, what I do is 'prep' the asf using graphedit. Decode it, run the vid stream through Huffy and deal with the result in vdub.

Of course, you need a hefty HD for that... but if you're doing video editing in the first place, I doubt that's much of a problem. ;'D

I managed to strip the wav from the file with vdub, but when I encoded the wav and video together with tmpgenc the audio was way out of sinc (as I suspected) the file info in vdub says the audio steam is 24k hz mono with mpeg layer3 professional. There must be a way to do this, I hate trying to match up the audio in tmpgenc.

Maybe try Makeing an AVI file out of the ASF file with something like "Stoik Video Converter" it will usually keep sync while encodeing to a New format , then try encodeing the AVI In Tmpgenc...
