| a stupid question maybe, but what does mask selected frames do exactly in Vdub?? |

| VirtualDub's mask frame feature seems to be a quick-and-dirty way to hide flaws in the video. Let's say frame 103 is bad-looking for some reason. Maybe you had a VHS dropout or some other glitch on that one frame. If you select range (start = 103, end = 103) and mask the frame, it will not appear when you save the final video. Instead, it will be replaced by the most recent "good" frame, which is frame 102. Of course, the side effect is that frame 102 now appears twice in the final video! (That's why I call it a "quick-and-dirty" solution.) Note that it's also possible to mask a sequence of frames (say, start = 103, end = 107), in which case the most recent "good" frame (102) will replace all of the "bad" frames in that range.
