When i try to drag and drop multiple files to virtual dub its says VirtualDub error. You have dropped x files. Multiple files are not allowed except for appending. What is that?

Normally you can open "only one" file at a time in VirtualDub. So it has no sense to drag and drop multiple files to it.

A functionality of VirtualDub is to "append" one or more files one to another (under condition that they have equal encoding, frame rate, bit rate, etc.).
In that case you can open the first file via drag and drop, then append the second file via CTRL + drag and drop, and so on...

I hope this will clarify things for you ...

So lets say i need to move 500 files into VirtualDub i had to dragdrop them 500 times which is nonsence. I was following a tutorial http://www.playdota.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=2628&pictureid=34516 ant as i see people can just drag drop all of them at once.
P.S.
I downloaded another version of VirtualDub and now when i put one file in there it would automatically move them all into VirtualDub.

To open large numbers of files and merge them in a sequence, the files must be named with sequential numbering. What you do is this:
1. open the first file of the sequence.
2. open the next file with File, Append AVI Segment with the Autodetect option enabled.

Control+drag works for step 2, but the clip order is unpredictable, so it's best to limit Control+drag to appending one file at a time.

You can rename your files with sequential numbering in a number of ways. http://www.irfanview.com/ has a nice "batch rename" ability, which I have described http://frapsforum.com/threads/how-does-fraps-organize-itself.743/#post-3143. I have also used http://www.joejoesoft.com/cms/showpage.php?cid=108 which works fine too; there are https://www.google.com/search?q="batch+rename", including a https://frapsforum.com/threads/frapsjoin-quickly-joins-avi-segments.920/ for Fraps segmented capture videos.
