Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Newbie Questions > Seek Refresh Missing

On most computers I use VDub this isn't a problem, but turns out on my new desktop it is:

When I load a video that is not AVI (MP4, WMV) and I move the seek bar, usually the video preview will refresh. In my case, it only refreshes when I move the VDub window around a little. This won't do. Any idea what is wrong?

"case" meaning your computer, or a particular video file?

If it's the computer: what Windows version?
Might be a missing codec - try installing http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

If it's the video: please copy/paste the File Information.

Codec pack? Kidding right?! They do more harm then good. Also it works fine on my old computer, also running Win7. This must be something with the graphics card?

No, K-Lite is an exception to that rule. Suit yourself, though.

Hmmm, there is a possibly http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act=ST&f=15&t=21987&hl=&#entry95036 - try going to Virtualdub Options, Preferences, Display: disable "Use DirectX for display panes."

Are you sure that exact same video works alright on another computer? Because some files (and file formats) just don't support fast seeking.

EDIT see this related thread: http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=21772

Codec packs used to be clean like k-lite but in general, searching for these takes you to some shady places. Also, if you dont check the right boxes during install, they dump more than you need. So now, I only install what I need and nothing else. rolleyes.gif
