Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Newbie Questions > 1.5.10.2 Vs 1.10.4 Jvc Mod Files To Mpg

My video camera is producing mod files (mpeg 2 encoded files, file extension is .mod). I have 2 installations, virtual dub 1.5.10.2 and 1.10.4. If I load the mod file the 1.5.10.2 installation shows the video without sound (no audio, I do not complain), the 1.10.4 installation neither sound nor image (far worse). So I ask how to get the image for the 1.10.4 installation ... (Trying to do some conversion to mpeg format later ...)

Nope, you only have virtualdub 1.10.4 The other one you have is VirtualDubMod which was a modified version made by somebody else a long time ago and is unsupported The reason you get video with VirtualDubMod is because it had an MPEG2 decoder built in to it Virtualdub uses a plugin system instead, so you'd need to add one of the plugins that can decode your video The plugins page is here http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act=ST&f=7&t=19488 You could get the MPEG2 plugin or one of the plugins that loads many formats eg the FFMpeg plugin To install, extract the .zip contents into virtualdub's plugins32 directory (or plugins64 if you're using the 64bit version) Then start virtualdub and select the open video dialog In that dialog, select your file, and to pick a plugin change the 'files of type' to the plugin you want to use and click OK

Thanks for the response. I waited some days ... unfortunately ... the webpage http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/MPEG2/ is not working. Would be the one I need for to play MPEG2 ... the ffmpeg plugin did not get to work, because I did not understand the instructions ... to install (could not find the open video dialog ...)

At the top of the input plugins page it says
If you look down the page you'll find 'Mirror of FccHandlers stuff' It's also in my sig The open video dialog is on the file menu->open video file |

I got it. At last, I have video display - unfortunately no audio, so is there a way to get the audio as well ... and have the whole converted to a genuine mpeg2 audio/video file. Didn t try to get the mod file to mpeg2 - that means - my dvd player does not like the kind of audio in this mod file either and is not playing it ... (VLC player telling it has an AC3 audio codec - as VLC is playing it ... audio and video - thought shold nt be too difficult to convert ?)

Which plugins did you try? The three I'd try are the mpeg2, ffdshow and directshow If none of them give audio, try loading it with the ffdshow plugin and posting a screenshot of the file menu->file information

Thanks a lot for all. Now everything is working fine. Can export my mod files to a format which can be read by the DVD player (mpeg2 format for videos and sound using an ac3 plugin) ...
