Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Newbie Questions > Xvid Does Not Work

Posted by: fetito666 Sep 15 2013, 04:43 AM
Hello!

All of a sudden I cannot convert image sequences with VirtualDub 1.9.11 into an Xvid-Avi.

The following error message appears: "Cannot start video compression: An unknown error ocurred (may be corrupt data). (error code -100)".

Other codecs work fine (Microsoft RLE or Video 1).

I use Windows 8 64-bit.

Memo to self: When VirtualDub complains about an error -100, which it claims could be
due to a corrupt file, or a codec problem, check it's not the latter.

In particular, if using the resizing filter, make sure the size can be handled by the codec.
In the case of XVid, it won't handle a size not divisible by 4.

@raffriff42: And what does that mean to me? sad.gif I change the video output-resolution, but the error is the same.

Please just tell us what the original size of your video is, when you open it in VirtualDub.
Look at File > File information... > Frame size

Now when you are going to encode to Xvid, do you apply the Resize filter ?
If so, what is the New size ?

If you resize to for exemple 851x480, Xvid will not handle it and show you the -100 error.
Try to use multiples of 4.

Also check that you have installed the latest version of Xvid (1.3.2) that you can find here:

Hello, it is a sequence of 190 JPGs with the following resolution 1010x729x24b.

Now all I did not was clicking on the resize-filter option "Codec-friendly sizing" and I have chosen "multiples of 4".

Now it works like a charme. YOU RULE!

Gracias che!
