Hi, I've just opened Virtualdub for the first time so I'm the epitome of the newbie user. I'm hoping to use it primarily to compose a timelapse shot of c.1 hour. But I might need to add some text to the video, i.e, some writing that fades in and out at certain stages. Is this possible via a plug-in or would I have to import the video into another software package? I don't feel inclined to do this in the jpg files prior to editing in Virtualdub, but if this is the only way then I will; but is there an option to do this once the editing is complete? I'm sure this question has been asked already but any help will be very much appreciated. Best, Ray

Text on a video That'd be called subtitles There's nothing built in, but there are plenty of subtitle makers. Virtualdub has a subtitle filter that can read some formats, and there are other addon filters for subtitles as well I never use them myself so can't suggest any offhand, if you can't find what you want on google or by searching this site then maybe someone here can make suggetions

Thanks for the quick reply. I've just searched the filters section (which I was unaware of) and note numerous filters labelled "subtitler"... Perhaps checking this should have been my first port of call. Truly, a question only a newbie could ask! Again, thanks for that. I'll look through them and see what works best. Best, Ray

This one is my favorite subtitler program: http://www.visualsubsync.org/ I like VSS because you can visually apply where to put the subtitles by looking at the waveform of the audio from the video. Aegissub is also another subtitler program: http://www.aegisub.org/
