Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Newbie Questions > Audio And Video Gradually Gets Out Of Sync

Hi all. I recently purchased a logitech HD webcam c920. I intend to use Vdub and the webcam to record videos of myself playing guitar. When i record with the webcam and vdub all is fine, until i select my audio interface (M-Audio USB) as the audio source. The video gradually gets out of sync with the audio.. meaning it is in sync early and by two minutes into the vid it is very obviously off. I have selected video timing to sync with audio in the 'timing' tab. Tests with Debut Video CApture yielded the same results. Interestingly though, if i record myself at 480p (down from 720) the sync is fine. Also if i record my video in Vdub and my audio in Sonar X1 (audio software) and later import the video into Sonar, it is in sync. Can anyone tell me why i can't seem to sync audio and video in Vdub at 720p? Thanks

In most of the cases the problem is caused by 'dropped frames'. Normally there must be 25 (or 29.970) recorded images per second. If there are less images recorded in that time period you get a delay between your images/frames and the related audio (= out of sync). Probably at 720p video combined with compressed audio, your pc is put at it's limit. I suppose you are using Video > Compression (with a certain codec) and also Audio > Compression (with a certain codec) ? If you should record Video with "Uncompressed RGB/YCbCr" this would take a lot of resources from your pc. So don't. On the contrarary, what you can try is to record audio with "no compression" and use a video codec that is taking less resources, or also try once to clear all checkboxes in the Capture > Timing... dialogbox. Let us know what the results are...
