Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Codec Discussion > ......is 3vix Messing With My Virtualdub?

HI everybody!......I'm new to this forum. I hope my question is not inappropiate, meaning if here is the right place to post it..... Anyway, I'm having problems with Virtualdub, I think it's a codec conflict type of problem. At the moment every time I try to compress a movie using any video compression, virtualdub crashes. The message displayed after the crash blames: An integer SSE (Pentium III/Athlon) instruction not supported by the CPU was executed in module '3IVX'... ...while compressing frame 0 from 8401d000 to 00bec46c (VideoSequenceCompressor.cpp:392)... ...while running thread "Processing" (thread.cpp:120).

The error indicates that your CPU doesn't support ISSE. What kind of CPU do you have?

Sigh... another codec that doesn't use CPUID properly. You might want to check the specs for the 3ivx codec -- I'm guessing your system is probably below the minimum requirements.

Thank you Phaeron for your reply, but uh..... ........is that something that I can fix?....... I was thinking to go for drastic measures:...uninstall my 3viX codec, uninstall my DivX 4.12 codec delete any reg. keys left in my regestry (of the two above mentioned programs).........uninstall VirtualDub ( How do I do that, since the program doesn't come with an uninstall?) ....and install everything back again!......... Sounds crazy?.............

CPUID is a low-level function which programs can use to identify your CPU, and its capabilities. (For example, it can be used to determine if a particular CPU has support for ISSE instructions.) Phaeron suggests that the codec is trying to use ISSE instructions, but it hasn't properly checked that your CPU supports them. (And apparently your CPU does not.) If that's the case, then no amount of uninstalling and installing is going to help; you just can't use the 3ivx codec if your CPU doesn't support ISSE.
