Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Codec Discussion > Encode Wmv 9 In Virtualdub..

Posted by: affter333 Oct 18 2004, 03:39 PM
Hi, I downloaded some file from MS site about a year ago,
I forgot the filename but It enables Vdub to encode wmv9 as avi files,
which is great, I'm trying to convert lots of DV tape as wmv9-AVIs.

But the question is, is wmv9-AVI format legit? (V:WMV9,A:MP3)
if I send them to my friends, can they play from their windows media
player without having to download some kind of hackfile?

And most importantly, Will future stand along WMV-DVD PLAYERs
support it? (V:WMV9,A:MP3)/AVIs

Thanks for your kind help..

Why would they not be? All your friends need are a WMV9 decoder and a MP3 decoder.

Perhaps, but more likely there will be support for the WMV container together with WMA audio... but perhaps player manufacturors are nice enough to add support for it. smile.gif

uhm... i dont know if there will be any WMV-DVD players though... i only know about DivX players...

Thanks, I mean do they still have to download
this special VCM version of WMV9 codec?

Can they just play these AVIs with the old wmv9 codec
that comes with wmp9 install ?
