Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Codec Discussion > Mp3 Compression Lost?

Hi,

I have recently bought a new computer and set up everything as i had it before - or so i thought.

I wish to re-encode a WAV file as an mp3 - but the bitrate options for mp3 compression in virtualdub only go up to 56k/s

Just wondered what i need to do or install to give me all of the options up to 128 and beyond.

Thanks

Chris

Hi,

you have install the windows media player and he installs his own mp3 codec (trash). You must reinstall your mp3 codec.

Ciao

Try using Google smile.gif

youŽll find a codec that works fine, but to compress a wav to mp3 there is a better, faster and easier way: use lame
It will offer you much higher quality than the codec you find in the internet for VirtualDub.

The LAME command line encoder is great, but the ACM version of LAME gave me all kinds of problems and I don't recommend using it for movies.
