Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Codec Discussion > Lame Mp3 Codec For X86 And X64

Posted by: JessBox Feb 5 2011, 01:56 PM
Hello,

Does anyone know where I can download the latest Lame MP3 codec (version 3.98.4) for both x86 and x64 architectures? Have been searching through the web for a long time... I found several links, but I'm not sure if I can trust them. The size of the file lameACM.acm varies from site to site, though they all seem to expose the same latest version...

Could you provide me such links if you know them, please? I need both versions x86 and x64 to support as I'm running both versions of VirtualDub - x86 and x64 ones.

How about the one in my sig?
Both x86 and x64 acm's are installed

SetupLamex64x32.exe throws an error at the final stage of installation - "Unable to execute file: C:\Windows\system32\InfDefaultInstall.exe. CreateProcess failed; code 2." Seems like it cannot find this file. I have Windows XP Pro SP3 x86. Do you know what can be the reason?

Ah.... I assumed you were using Win7 x64 as you needed both, the missing file is in vista and Win7

The separate plain acm's are here
x86 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17024916/MyUploadedStuff/Lame%20x86%20acm.zip
x64 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17024916/MyUploadedStuff/Lame%20x64%20acm.zip

Installing the x86 version on a 64bit OS is more awkward than right clicking the .inf and picking install
You'd have to start a cmd prompt (as an admin on vista/Win7)
Then type
"C:\Windows\SysWOW64\rundll32.exe" setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 "c:\LameACM.inf"
Replace the paths with the location on your pc eg "c:\downloads\LameACM.inf"

[edit] fixed the installer to work on xp, vista, win7 on both 32 and 64 bit os's
