Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Codec Discussion > Codec For Virtaldub Erros

I have the Divx Alpha 2 player installed.

However, I can't play the divx encoded files in VirtualDub.

How do I get VirtualDub to use a certain codec??
Where do I download to install the codecs??

This is the error that I got.

---------------------------
VirtualDub Error
---------------------------
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

XVid Codec are different from DivX... smile.gif smile.gif

If your video are compressed with XVID codec you can download this codec from Internet (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html).

To use certain codec in VirtualDub, you can use VIDEO / COMPRESSION menù and appairs the codec you have installed in your PC.

Bye.
