| I have a file.avi that has the dv codec. when i attempt to play in virtual dub i get --------------------------- VirtualDub Error --------------------------- Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown) VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. | Options > Preferences... > AVI > Prefer internal video decoders over installed third-party codecs (MJPEG and DV) Or use ffdshow VFW. ffdshow video encoder configuration > Decoder > Codecs > DV = libavcodec Or install some DV codec - for example, Cedocida DV Codec. |

| ffdshow's internal DV is excellent. I find it to behave better than MainConcept-DV and Canopus-DV in some cases (in respect of detail/sharpness and "chromatic aberrations" i.e. luma-chroma relative shifts/misplacements). ...I even "commented" the Win Registry entry for vidc.dvsd (renamed it to _vidc.dvsd) in order to make ffdshow to run on each and every call for DVSD instead of system default codec... The only problem - sometimes you can run into the entire ffdshow build being "corrupt". |
