Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Codec Discussion > Mp3 Codec On Windows 7

Posted by: PoBear Sep 26 2009, 04:14 PM
I am running Vdub 1.9.4 (32 bit version) on Windows 7 RC (64-bit).

I am trying to convert an MPEG-2 video to a DIVX AVI which I have done before without problem under XP. I am using the MPEG-2 plugin v3.1 by fccHandler but when I try and set up the audio conversion I have no settings under the MPEG Layer 3 entry.

I have searched the forums and found some entried relating to "Enabling Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec in Windows Vista" which I have followed, but they have made no difference.

Anybody able to help?

Thanks

Steve

In this case you need to install an alternative MP3 codec such as Lame MP3 codec. Then use that for the compression.

I'm encountering the same issue using Virtual Dub 1.9.7 (32-bit) on Windows 7 x64. MPEG Layer-3 contains no entries.

I've installed LAME, but it's not appearing on the codec list.

edit: managed to install LAME by following advice on http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=17359. Note that the last parameter of rundll32 (the location of the codec) must not be encased in quotes. If the path contains spaces, I'd suggest to move the file to a path with no spaces.
