| OK, OK, if I want to use the subtitler filter on Virtual Dub, what codec do I use to get it so Premier will print it to tape? I want top quality. IS there a way to use the microsoft dv codec from Virtual Dub? Am I correct that that is the only codec that Premier will like? I also have sony DV gate, which has a print to tape option (I haven't gotten it to work either).What other softway would have a print to tape that will sync up with my DV Cam that will like a codec that Virtual DUb will compress with? Help. |

| You can use a DV codec or HuffyUV. With DV codec you'll get very good quality and the resulting DV AVI file can be transported via iLink. But there are some restrictions: DV video has to be 720x480 30fps for NTSC and 720x576 25 fps for PAL and 48 kHz 16bit stereo or 32 kHz 12bit stereo PCM audio. When there is no DV codec from Sony DV gate selectable in VD, then you'll need a VFW capable DV codec like Mainconcept DV codec (approx. 100 US$) or Panasonic DV codec (free?). The Microsoft DV codec can't be used inside VD. With HuffyUV (http://math.berkeley.edu/~benrg/huffyuv.html) you will get very good quality too, but the AVI file has to be rendered in AP again. So you need disk space for the original video, the HuffyUV AVI intermediate and the final DV AVI. And the HuffyUV AVI intermediate has a 2.5:1 compression only, so you need a big harddisk. AP can render with Microsoft DV codec. Remember the DV restrictions for the final output. Bye Stefan |
