Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Codec Discussion > Creating Avi Type 2

I am trying to convert an mpeg to an avi so I can open it in Studio. I get the error message in Studio that the avi did not use DV encoder. I was informed by someone that I need tomake an avi type 2. Can I do that with Virtual Dub?

Yes, VD can make DV AVI Type-2 video files. In detail, VD never creates DV AVI type-1 files! You need a VFW DV codec to create DV AVI type-2 files. E.g. the Mainconcept DV codec (approx. 100 US$) or the Panasonic DV codec (free?).

But i'm not sure Studio 7 can import DV AVI Type-2 files. How did you produce the AVI file that was rejected?

You can also upgrade to Studio 8 as well. Studio 8 can import MPEG files.

Try to use AVI transcoder from http://www.alparysoft.com , it will decide the problem.
