Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > General Discussion > Can You Overlap Audio In Virtualdub?

My process is as follows for commentating StarCraft 2 replays: Record video and game sound with fraps, get one giant video. Record my audio with Audacity, export it as a wav. Put them both into virtualdub, use the .wav of my commentating as the source audio, and process it with the x264 codec. However, this uses that file as the sole audio source, and thus the game sounds are not in the finished product. I've tried loading up fraps file (.avi) into VirtualDub, saving it as a .wav to get the audio taking both my audio and the .wav from VirtualDub and combining them in Audacity to get 1 file with both sounds, but there are sync issues with that because of either: 1) imperfect trimming of the original Audacity file; the 2 files combine, and they screw up each other's length. I can try to pinpoint that, but it's very hard and the only way I can tell if it has worked is to process the whole video and then check--a huge waste of time if it didn't work. 2) Some kind of syncing issue with VirtualDub. This is a bit more unlikely, since my audio is in sync but the game sounds aren't. Since the audio/game sounds are part of the same file at this point, it's likely a problem in Audacity, right? If I have 2 tracks open in Audacity and one is longer than the other, will the export default to the shorter or longer one for the finished product? So it would be nice if I could just overlap the sounds in VirtualDub. Is it possible?

I'm busy troubleshooting the crap out of this. I process with both the video and audio on Full Processing Mode. Should they both be direct stream copy? Should one of them? I really don't know what the terms mean.

/thread Issue was with my crappy interim monitor's playback rate. Uploaded the video to YouTube and it was fine.
