Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > General Discussion > Max Resolution + Extracting Parts Of Image

Hi,

I have two questions as I'm researching the possibility of using vdub for creating a multi-screen media presentation, meaning the video file is split in several media files - those media files get loaded on different computers that output each a different file, synched on a network. Together they form a gigantic screen. Now I have some questions for preparing files:

* What's the max resolution Vdub can read? I need to create gigantic files that can be split in reasonable sized files, like 800x600 etc ...

* Is there a plugin that can set XY coordinates on the screen, and only extract that part of the screen? For example a 2000x2000 pixels video file, and a rectangle of 800x600 starting from XY position 200 x 300 is extracted from that picture?

Thanks for possible answers in advance!

Greets,
Frank

VirtualDub doesn't have any intentional limits on frame size, although you may encounter issues if an image gets too large. Some users regularly process video as large as 4096 x 4096 without problems. You might encounter issues if the width or height exceeds 32768, however, and of course if the image can't fit in memory you will definitely have trouble. Also, on some video cards you may need to disable acceleration options in Options > Preferences > Display in order to work around DirectDraw bugs in the video driver with large images.

To extract a subrectangle, insert the null transform video filter, select it, and then click Crop. There you can crop to a rectangle in the video.
