Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > General Discussion > Fade Out Logo?

Posted by: hereshegoes May 6 2007, 05:50 AM
I've had no problem fading in a logo with the Donald Graft logo filter....works great! But no matter what numbers I've tried in the boxes next to the fade in lens, can't get the fade out to show up. Can someone please tell me how to fade out in the same manner as fade in.

For example, if I want a logo to show up for 200 frames and fade in and out for 20 frames,,,what are the settings. I know to enter 200 for the duration and entering a 20 in the first box that says fade in lens works, but what do I put in the other boxes to fade out?

Thanks so much! Worked perfect and saved the image of the filter you put up in case I forget.

VirtualDub and all the filter developers are proof that some of the best programs on the internet are free.

Just thought I would post back with more info in case others have the same problem.

I can't get that option to work with mpg videos. Fade in works but once I try to put a number in the out section the whole image disappears.
Works okay once I save the mpg as an avi but I would rather not run the job twice. So the way I fade when altering an mpg is just making note of the x,y positions and alpha level number I chose and then repeat adding the logo filter for the next screens reducing the alpha number and checking preview screen to make it look right.

All my mpg's are mpg level 1 and created by a program called Advanced X Video Converter. So far this is the only filter option that does not work for them.

Another option would be (using version 1.7.1 or 1.7.2) to leave the boxes empty under fade (alpha blending 255), click OK and choose Blend.

Click View and choose Curve Editor. Check the help files for curve editor to see how to make your curve. You can play around with the length and shape of the curve to get the effect you want.

If editing an AVI then you can use the smart render feature, setting the compression to the origal file to encode only the filter effects and direct stream copy the rest.

For MPEG, frameserve to your mpeg encoder. I use TMPGEnc Plus.

Here is an example of a fade out_fade in using the brightness filter with the curve editor.
