hi, i am trying to encode a dv movie to divx pro 5.02 with lame mp3 128 kbit. But the program crashes after about 5% (which is after about 1 gb of the 22 gb total) so maybe it has something to do with the codecs not liking big avi's or something... or the lame codec has a problem with big files... Anyway, i don't get it, i'm trying to set legacy avi support to 1 gb now in virtualdub, and i will try again. But some help would be greatly appreciated

I'm sorry but I have the same problems... VD freeze after 30% of work! I try with MP3 Codec, no Audio compression codec and with DivX5.02, DivX4 and Xvid codec... All the codec or non-codec fail at 30% in VD. It's strange 'cause it works well with XMpeg... but I want to use VirtualDub!!!!! I think it's not a problems of Codecs. I try many input (divX5.02, AVS, and so....). Don't really understand! I'm under W2K.

I have the same problems. Im actually using VD 1.4.13-mpeg2 version and when i try to convert my mpeg2 to a divx using the divx pro 5.02 encoder it stops processing at video frame 9995. I am running winXPpro, athlon 2000, 512mb ram, wd 80gb 8mb cache HD... Virtual Dub also seems to ever increase (albeit slowly) its memory usage as it converts my mpeg2 to a divx...i don't know how big of a deal this is b/c i only got about 5-10% of the file done....but within those first 10000 frames memory usage increased from 45mb to 50mb.

1. While openDML AVI does support huge filesizes in principal, Virtualdub cant handle them correctly in some rare cases once they are > 2 GB 2. lame.acm is not a fully matured codec, Steve 'robux4' LHomme stopped working on it when he realized the ACM codec structiure is outdated and doesnt support VBR/ABR audio correctly ... i recommend to use the Fraunhofer MP3 codec in CBR mode, its very stable and gives very good results also, without breaking AVI specs 3. I heard about this 9995 frames problem with DivX 5 before and i seem to remember this problem ( memory leak ? ) was fixed in DivX 5.03 ?

I upgraded to the 5.03 codec and switched to another mp3 encoder...but VD still stopped processing at video frame 9995

Hi I had the same problem : crash at the frame # 9995 when encoding. After a lot of time spent in uninstall / install / uninstall ...... (almost everything I could), I found a solution which works well with my configuration : I just remove my aquisition board from my PC !!!!!!!! (it's a Pinnacle DC10+) So : I capture with the DC10+ in the PC and I encode with the DC10+ in.....its box !!! Good Luck Fred92

I tried every video compressor, divX 4, 5.0.2, 5.0.3, xVid with every audio compressor (lame, fraunhoffer, divX audio) It freezes at 9995 frame with every compressor audio... but with WAV and direct stream copy or without sound it works with every video compressor. The problems comes from the audio! I just encode the video from one side (virtual dub) and audio from the other side (AC3Tool) and merge them with nandub. It's not a solution! I will try to format Hard drive and re-install everything... maybe it's a conflict with all Audio codec I had installed (I tried everything Nimo, Lame, WM9 codec, and every MP3 codec I founded)... If after re-installation it works fine, it would probably means that there were a problem with every MP3 codec installed (Nimo install Fraunhoffer codec by default, WM9-codec install it too and I had probably an other package that installed it)

I'd like to add to this thread by mentioning that I had all kinds of ACM problems after installing the LAME codec. It got so frustrating that I uninstalled the codec, but still some weird problems remained. Eventually I went into my Win98 registry and did a search for "lameacm" and deleted any keys that mentioned it. I also deleted any mention of "lameacm" from SYSTEM.INI. After that, the problems disappeared. (Newbie warning: be very careful if you choose to edit your registry, because you can easily screw up your Windows permanently.)

sorry for this late reply guys, but i figured my problem out myself: it was the dv codec i used to display the video in virtualdub, first i used the pinnacle dv codec 2.5 or something (i can't remember cause i deleted the bitch right away But now after installing the Mainconcept DV codec (which i knew was recommended, but being to damn stupid didn't install right away) everything works fine! I just made my first DivX and it looks great
