Unofficial VirtualDub Support Forums > Testing / Bug Reports > Excessive Cpu-usage When Browsing

When browsing trough dirs containing files, vdubmod hits the 100%-cpu usage fan.
Worst case i've seen sofar is 3m40s of 100% cpu-usage before the contents of a dir were shown in the open-dialog.

None of the vdub-versions ranging from 1.4c to 1.5.2 have this problem
Vdubmod1.4.3_2v2 only takes 0m26s with the dir that takes vdubmod1.4.1_1 3m40s.

System info :
AMD Tbird 1200, Win98se, Dx9

The effect seems to be triggered when there's a .log file in the same dir.
It seems content-related, since I've tried a couple of other .log files, but not all the files caused the above behaviour.

This seems to be a windows-related problem.
It is repeatable as followed:
- make a file with lotsa dots in it. (max 9 or so otherwise you'll be waiting for a long time ;)
- do open video file in vdub and go to the dir with the file in it.
And now you'll be waiting with 100% cpu usage.

This problem seems to coincide with the 'All usable types' filter. Cause when removed from the source all problems are over. In other words, lots of filters with lots of dots are a big no no.

Maybe try a bug report at Microsoft? ;)
