I like the fccHandler WMV plugin a LOT. With the latest v2.8 it seems to be absolutely flawless... untill now.

Some suxxka produced a 1920x1080 WMV files that this plugin cannot handle at all. I should mention that I cannot even play them and that the sample is very likely a p0rn or some weird sort, but that is not a reason for not being able to actually open the file, right?
Plugins should not have a "taste" and open only more interesting stuff.

However there are the sample video (273MB, did not find anything smaller, another example is 300MB...) that cannot be opened, much less played by VirtualDub with the WMV v2.8 fccHandler plugin. Anyone can tell me why and is this fixable? Ulozto.cz show preview of this file w/o a glitch...

Thanks.

Opens fine with ffdshow's vfw codec, as long as vc-1 is set to wmv9

This settings or set it to disabled make the file playing, however that was not my goal. The goal is to get the file into VirtualDub. When I open it (even with the setting wmv9 in FFDshow and ALL other videos open fine), this one show only a green screen and NO IMAGE.

What I could possibly do wrong?

Shows fine in virtualdub for me when FFDShow's VFW configuration has vc-1 set to wmv9 (not libavcodec) - wmvplugin doesn't use the directshow part of FFDShow

[edit]
You could also use the directshow of ffmpeg plugins

Oh, I forget to use the DirectShow input filter by manual choice.

Then it works just fine and open in VirtualDub.

But the case is about the inability to open certain WMV files using the WMV input filter. That it is and this problem remaín there tongue.gif

When you use the DirectShow inputdriver plugin in VirtualDub, then the DirectShow decoders of ffdshow will normally be used.

When you use the WMV inputdriver plugin, then either the Video for Windows decoders of ffdshow will be used or the original codec.

This is what I think that the dloneranger is trying to make clear.

Via Windows Media Player > Help > About Windows Media Player > Technical information, you can verify at Video Codecs if
ICM Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 WMV3 wmv9vcm.dll 9.0.1.369 is installed.
