Or maybe something's wrong with Vdub on my system.

I have used Conditional, but only back in '03. Now when I try to add it, when it prompts me with the window, "Select filter for conditional handling", there are no entries in the list. I don't remember anything of my early usage a decade ago, but I would guess that there are supposed to be filters listed there. Because there are none, the only thing I can do is click the "Cancel" button (the "Okay" button is greyed out), and the load aborts.

What silly thing am I doing wrong?? I'm using many other filters with no problems.

Also does anyone have the whole package, including the .gif files that the documentation html refers to? I don't know why I don't have them. The original site for downloading is gone.

Hi TCmullet, unfortunately, changes done to VirtualDub in the middle of version 1.6 have broken the plugin that you indicate. Searching on internet, I found the next sentence from a user in the VirtualDub blog:

QUOTE (John I. - 12 07 2005 - 16:11)

I'm sorry I posted the following comment to v1.6.8 release before noticing the release of 1.6.9. :
There is one more observation to (1.6.8, 1.6.9) and not in 1.5.1.
Using ‘Condional’ filter with/without
a clip gives a garbled list of filters among strange combinations of charachters. (several filters disappear.)

With the follow answer from VirtualDub's author
QUOTE (Phaeron - 13 07 2005 - 00:05)

John:
The conditional filter inspects private structures within VirtualDub that are not covered by the filter SDK, so it broke when I rewrote the system in the middle of the 1.5.x series to resolve filter load failures with too many filters loaded. Unfortunately, I can't really support the way this filter works going forward (it's going to break really badly in 1.7.x). However, I think the author has released a newer version that can recognize and access the 1.6.x structures, so you should check the author's site. I'm thinking about ways I can expose the same kinds of functionality that the conditional filter was used for, but it's a bit premature as the 1.7.x filter system isn't working yet.

Unfortunately, Dmitri Schamschurko (the author of "Conditional Filter") aren't update the filter since March 2003, even his website has shutdown several years ago. (I found a surviving backup thanks to WayBack Machine Project).

Seemingly, the filter has to be completely operational if you still use the version 1.5.1 of the virtualdub (released in February 2003). Sorry, by the bad news.

PS: I am not a user of that filter, though it looks like to me an interesting characteristic. A pity that Phaeron does not included a similar feature integrated in a posterior VirtualDub as the same one suggested.

Thanks for your help, Empa___. However, since posting my question, I've discovered an incredible way to do the same thing... Curve Editing!!! Amazing!!! What I wanted the Conditional for was to execute the Fill filter to black-out some short ranges. Now I can apply the same filter (Fill) and simply draw the square wave needed at the spots I was going to enter frame number ranges in Conditional. This way is much better than Conditional. And especially as Conditional is no longer workable.

I've not been keeping up with Vdub feature development, so the curve editing was totally new to me even though it's a bit old now. The way I discovered it was a youtube video someone had made showing how to use it. That drove me to notice new bells and whistles that I never had motivation to notice.

Heck, I simply wanted "cuts editing" to black out a 1-sec spot periodically. Now, with nothing more than the fill filter and Curve Editing, I can do a fade to/from black!

And I've thought of something more. I'm a big fan of Delogo. It's always been a pain to derive frame ranges for it's own "conditional" feature. But a sticky part is when the logo fades in and out. What does one do? I've manually inspected where to cut delogo in and out, but there was no really good solution. I think now I can leave those frame ranges OUT of delogo's configuration and simply use a curve blend with a nearly steep slope (instead of a fully steep slope) to fade the delogo effect in and out at those spots where the video has them fading in and out! Haven't tried it yet, but I suspect it will work perfectly! Tedious, yes, but less so than the std delogo way. And I believe it will be much better looking!!!!
