Hello guys, Hi fccHandler!

Using VirtualDub 1.8.8 and latest v1.3 AC3 input plugin from fccHandler (thx!) from there:
http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchan.../AC3/index.html

I somewhat hoped, that I can just open the vob file, convert the video and the audio like a known formats. Eg. that I could change the audio to 44.1kHz, 16bit, stereo and encode it with Lame as usual. I was somewhat surprised, that things did not work as planed. I could open the vob and work with the mpeg2 flawlessly, however the audio ended up right here:

No audio decompressor? (source format tag: 2000)

What the... blink.gif

I did workaround this that way - save raw audio data, then rename to x.ac3 and then use azid on it (azid x.ac3 x.wav), then encode the wav with Lame and then use it as "audio from other source"...

It's great that one can work directly with amv and mp2 files and so on with VirtualDub. That is absolutely fantastic. So this was somewhat disappointing. Any clues, what went wrong there, guys? I'm sure the plugin is in plugins32 directory, VirtualDub was restarted to load the plugin and as you can see on the screen, the audio IS recognized. Just when I tried to start encoding, then things went wrong...

Luckily, the source "VTS_01_1.VOB" file is a 230MB big, so in case of need, it could be uploaded somewhere (depositfiles, rapidshare, sendspace...) to be available for testing.

The AC-3 input plugin is only for importing standalone ac3 files.
To decode AC-3 audio you need to install the AC-3 ACM codec.

Look here: http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/

PS: VirtualDub 1.8.8 is really old.
PS2: Also 1.3 isn't the latest version of the AC-3 input plugin.

Some more info:

1) VirtualDub 1.9.11 (stable) or 1.10.2 (beta) download at:

2) Audio in VOB is mostly (or maybe always) encoded in AC3 at 48.000 Hz (at 256Kbit/sec).

If you want to convert it to MP3 at 44.100 Hz, you can change the 'Sampling rate':
- click Audio > Conversion... and instead of 'No change (48.000 Hz)' choose '44.100 Hz' (and eventually, check 'High quality', choose 16-bit and Stereo).

Oh, first at all - my mistake. By latest AC3 plugin I mean v1.9, of course. Made a typo - I had v1.3 and updated to 1.9 when problems arise, however as I already mention, not a fix.

That was the mistake on my part. Now that I installed the AC-3 ACM codec the audio get recognized and things immediatelly started working! Hoooray! A salute to fccHandler!

Also I updated to the Virtual Dub 1.9.11, but that IMHO was not the biggest problem smile.gif

Many thanks for the suggestion, ale5000!

Now just if the damn M$ is not comming each day with a new format, like the 0162 audio... sad.gif

Whoa! That worked just right - except it is kinda slow, but hey, Duron 1600 is not a "computer" todays, lol. And the source wideo is 1280 pixels wide, so...
The very important line is "will need to choose "DirectShow input driver" from the file type drop-down in the Open File dialog" - I never used this input before and if there are any simple codec to install to fix these weird audio formats from M$, I will probably never ever need it, but hey - great work, phaeron!
It actually works, lol!

Every frame is a keyframe now, hmmm, interesting. Probably the way it handle the file, so...

Almost all my problems are fixed now, hooray! Now just "The Macro" question remains:
