I need to add subtitles in a movie, to play in kiss dp450 dvd that plays divx files. I use virtualdub to add the subtitle with a filter, but the movie only play ok in players (micro dvd player) when i add the ffdshow. The only problem is the virtualdub don't play the movie ok, is any filter to correct that situation? Because when i open the avi file in virtualdub and make a preview the movie is with problems codec:wacko:

make a search on the keywords 'subtitle filter' .. you have to reencode the complete movie ....

The problem isn't with subtitles because when I make the preview without the subtitler filter still show the image like I watch in micro dvd player without the code ffdshow installed, only after i installed the codec in micro dvd player and windows media player the problem was correct but in virtualdub persist

Windows Mediaplayer uses DirectShow filters to render movies, Virtualdub uses VfW ( Video for Windows ) codecs .....

Its dead simple :

- If you reencoded the movie completely ( will take 10 - 40 hrs in 2 pass mode, depending on your CPU ) using the DivX5 codec ( turn GMC and Q-PEL of, as DP 450 cant handle them ), and adding the subtitles into the picture using vdub's subtitle filter, you will be able to see the subs in the reencoded movie, and that includes Vdub, the DP 450 and any Windows Mediplayer.

- If you didnt reencode the movie, but were just adding the subtitles to the AVI file as a 2nd video stream, than neither Virtualdub nor the DP 450 will be able to show the subs, only DirectShow based Mediaplyers can when using special DirectShow filters like DVobSub or latest FFDshow.

The main difference is that in first case you are 'adding' the subtitles to the video frames, so they become a fixed element of the video, like being 'burnt' into the pictures. Its hard to remove them ever again, although there are special filters trying to do that. In 2nd case the subtitles are a video or character 'stream' of its own ( depending on format ) and can be removed from the AVI easily, and the video itself stay untouched. During playback the subtitles are simply 'blended' over the main picture, this is done automatically by the overlay mixer of M$ DirectShow. The DP 450 cant do that, if you wnat to have subs with the DP 450 you have to use first method, 'burning' the subs into the picture, and this requires to reencode the movie completely with all the loss of quality and long processing time coming with doing that.

Clear now ?

Sorry, but 2 pass first pass or 2 pass second pass
I know I will have loss of quality but until they, kiss, doesn't have the firmware to read subtitles - they told me they are working on that - I have to conform me with this
Thanks
