I have problems capturing to NTFS disk. Capture runs without any dropped frames up to a couple 100MB, then begins dropping 1-5 in 1000 or so frames. I have run several experiments and my conclusion is there is something abnormal going on with harddisk accesses to NTFS partition when using Virtualdub. My capture harddisk in 10K, 32G, freshly formatted and empty and used only for capture. System: 1.4G Athon, 512MB DDR.

1) Format as NTFS. Attempt capture (640x480 MJPEG 19 = 6MB/sec). Drops Frames as indicated previously.

2) Recapture to exact same filename as in experiment #1. No dropped frames until file size starts to exceed size of original file. At that point I start to hear the harddisk thrash and start to drop frames.

3) Reformat as FAT32. Repeat experiment #1 and #2. No harddisk thrashing, and very few dropped frames (maybe 1-10 in a 2 hr capture.)

4) Repeated experiments #1, #2 and #3 using AMCAP. No dropped frames with either NTFS or FAT32.
